Hidden between Mt. Olympus and just 5 kilometers from the Pierian shores, the ancient town of Dion was considered by the Macedonians to be one of the most important religious and cultural sites. The archeological park of Dion is one of the most intriguing places in Pieria with lush green vegetation, towering trees, abundant springs and an uncovered fortified city surrounded with sanctuaries and other places of worship. The archaeological museum of Dion was established in 1983 to display excavations unearthed in the area.
